Learn all about Superstitions Associated with Craps right here and now...

Dice have memory! Don't you agree with that? Well, why do you think whenever dice are thrown off the table, on the next roll, a 7 shows up?

Okay, this may not have anything to do with online craps or the game for that matter. Even if you are not one of those that believes in superstitions, you can't deny that they do make interesting reading. It's not just the craps players but many gamblers, even the seasoned ones, are superstitious.

If you've played craps at a land-based casino, you would know how a high roller gets his friend (female) to shoot or a player that takes his bets down because the dice left the table. These are common scenes at a craps table.

Some players have a strong belief that the positive energy at the table can result in positive results. If most of the people at a table believe that numbers will follow, they will.

I know all this sounds unbelievable but trust me, many a high roller believes in this.

Here are some superstitions of craps players:

  • Male players who are playing for the first time are considered to be unlucky when they are shooters. Many players don't bet in such a situation.
  • Female players who are playing for the first time are thought to be lucky and other players even lay an additional bet when a female is shooting the dice. They think her luck will rub off on them too.
  • It is thought that the next roll will be unlucky if the dice are changed.
  • At a land-based casino, players are sure that the roll will be jinxed if the dice hits any ones hands when it is thrown.
  • The shooter should not be spoken to or touched when they are having a good roll, as this will bring bad luck.
  • Never say 7, call it "it." They call 7 the devil.
  • There is a superstition that the dice should never be given with a total of 7 face up.
  • Many craps players carry a lucky charm or perform a lucky ritual before the game. It could be stacking the chips in piles of ten or chanting at the dice believing that doing that can get the dice to roll in their favor.
  • Finally there is a story that talks about a gambler who was sure he was unlucky and said to the dealer that he never gets a natural or makes the point when he shoots. The dealer is said to have replied, "You should have been a millionaire. You can even bet against the passing of the dice too."
In spite of there not being any reason for believing all these superstitions, it is important to respect them, if only to follow craps etiquette and ensure the believers' enjoyment is not ruined.
